Free Template: Carry a Long Project Into a New Chat
Before you abandon a long chat, fill in this template and bring it into the new chat as your first message. No signup, no tool required.
The template
Paste this into the old chat, fill it in, and send the result as the first message of your new chat:
## Task continuation **Goal:** (what this task is ultimately trying to achieve) **Current focus:** (what you're working on right now) **Confirmed decisions:** - (decision + why, one per line) **Completed work:** - (done item, one per line) **Excluded approaches:** - (ruled-out route + reason, one per line) **Unresolved / next step:** - (where work stopped; the single next action)
How to fill it well
- Decisions need the “why” — without it, the new chat will relitigate them.
- Excluded needs the reason — otherwise the same idea returns wearing a different hat.
- Next step should be one action, not a roadmap. The new chat only needs to know where to start.
In the new chat
Paste the filled template, then add one line: “Review this state. Point out anything unclear before we continue.”
Never let the new chat silently reinterpret it.
